A Penal businessman has appeared before the Siparia Second Magistrates Court for allegedly issuing dishonoured cheques.
On June 15th, officers conducted an operation at San Francique Road, where a suspect was detained and subsequently interviewed in relation to allegations of fraud.
It followed a matter in which cheques were issued and later returned due to insufficient funds.
Ishwar Gopie was charged with two counts of Obtaining Goods by Use of a Dishonoured Cheque, in the sums of $110,000 and $16,000 respectively.
He was granted $20,000 bail, with the matter adjourned to June 25th for the presentation of facts and sentencing.
