Trinidad and Tobago’s cyclists have ended their campaign at the UCI Track World Cup in Hong Kong without a medal, although Nicholas Paul came close in the men’s sprint.
Paul, the region’s top sprinter, finished fourth overall after losing the bronze medal ride to Australia’s Leigh Hoffman in straight heats.
He had earlier impressed, qualifying second fastest in the flying 200 metres in 9.459 seconds, and advancing through the knockout rounds with strong wins over Australia’s Daniel Barber and China’s Li Zhiwei.
But Paul was stopped in the semi-finals by Japan’s Kaiya Ota, who went on to reach the gold medal race.
