Last night’s murder of an off-duty police officer in Kelly Village is believed to have stemmed from an attempted robbery.
48-year-old PC Romell Kerry Douglas was sitting in his vehicle at the corner of Hydraulic Trace around 11:05pm, when a white Nissan Tiida pulled up alongside him.
The TTPS says the occupants of the car are believed to have attempted to rob PC Douglas, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
PC Douglas’ licensed firearm was allegedly taken during the incident and he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, a male suspect in the incident was taken to the Arima Health Facility for gunshot wounds, but subsequently succumbed to his injuries.
He has been identified as 19-year-old Adetola Ammon of Arima.
The suspects’ vehicle has also since been found and a manhunt is now underway for two additional male suspects.
