Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander says this country’s 64th Independence Day military parade and celebrations will go ahead as planned.

Speaking with 103.1FM News this morning, Minister Alexander dismissed claims circulating on social media that the parade had been cancelled, calling the information false.

The claims followed a Cabinet note indicating that a proposal related to the event had been withdrawn.

The Minister accused those spreading the claims of attempting to destabilise the process.

During a Standing Finance Committee on June 12th, Defence Minister Wayne Sturge said an additional $2.3 million was allocated to fund the Independence Day celebrations.

This is expected to include the parade, official functions and events at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
