Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander says recent threats against high-profile Government and State officials suggest the Government’s crime-fighting efforts are having an impact.
Speaking with 103.1FM News this morning, he said he was aware of a reported threat targeting the daughters of Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro, as well as a separate threat directed at Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath.
The Minister said the criminal elements are changing their tactics as authorities respond to security threats.
Minister Alexander added that the Top Cop has his full support “to treat the matter in the only way he knows how”.
The T&T Express reported that the threat was reportedly made by an anonymous caller to the E999 emergency service, which has prompted an investigation, with support from the Cyber Crime Unit to trace the caller.
The Minister also commented on reports that Prisons Commissioner Carlos Corraspe has been sent on leave, following allegations of preferential treatment being given to a high-profile detainee.
Minister Alexander said when concerns are raised about conditions or conduct within the prison system, those responsible must address them.
Minister Alexander added that the Government is focused on strengthening the country’s institutions by restoring accountability and ensuring they carry out their responsibilities effectively.
