There was plenty of action in the opening World Cup match between Mexico and South Africa, which saw more red cards than goals.

Co-hosts Mexico picked up a 2-0 win, getting off to a dream start with a 9th minute strike by Julián Quiñones.

That remained the score until the 67th minute, when #9 Raúl Jiménez found the back of the net.

Mexico dominated possession, leading to frustrated plays by South Africa, two of which saw red cards for Yaya Sithole and Themba Zwane.

Mexico also saw red, with César Montes shown a straight red in extra time for denying a goalscoring opportunity.

This is the seventh time there have been three or more red cards in a World Cup game, and the first time in an opener.
