Siparia Mayor Doodnath Mayrhoo has committed to painting a mural in memory of 12-year-old Mercedez Layne.
The announcement was made during the young girl’s funeral service at the Erin SDA Church this afternoon.
Mayor Mayrhoo also urged parents and guardians to take greater care when transporting children, warning against allowing them to travel alone and encouraging parents to accompany them whenever possible.
A suspect has appeared in court, charged with the child’s murder.
