A senior investigative journalist has resigned from Guardian Media Limited, citing what he believes to be “organisational ethical failings”.
In a statement on social media, the reporter claimed the ability of the Investigative Desk to hold powerful institutions and individuals accountable had been compromised.
He added that his resignation was meant to protect his “ethical integrity, peace of mind, and moral compass.”
His statement has since prompted social media commentary from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath.
In another subsequent post, the PM accused the media house having a history of “unethical conduct”.
When contacted for a comment, particularly on the claims made by the journalist, the Media Association of Trinidad and Tobago said discussions with the executive are ongoing.
GML is also yet to issue any statement.
