Association of Maxi Taxi Trinidad and Tobago is distancing itself from threats made against drivers who worked in the midst of yesterday’s strike.

A video circulating on social media shows rocks featuring the licence plate numbers of the maxis that continued to operate.

A voice can be heard threatening the drivers, who were called “greedy”.

103.1FM News spoke with Association Secretary, Vickash Kissoondath, who says they do not condone such statements.

A meeting was held yesterday with Transport Minister Eli Zakour, however Mr Kissoondath said this failed to yield any productive results.

He adds that while a large number of maxi operaators will continue to remain away from the job, some intend to return to work today. The strike was intended to draw attention to several issues, including calls for an increase in the highway speed limit for maxi taxis – from 65 to 80 km per hour, stronger crime fighting measures, a crackdown on illegal PH taxis, and payment of outstanding monies for transporting schoolchildren.
