An inmate at the Golden Grove Prison had a fleeting taste of freedom, following what the Prison Service says was a brief security breach.
Around 10:30am today, an inmate identified as Ishmael Khalid, managed to breach security protocols following a visit and exited the prison gates.
The Prison Service says the escape attempt was detected immediately, with Khalid successfully recaptured a short distance from the facility.
He is now expected to be charged with ‘Escaping Legal Custody’.
Acting Prisons Commissioner Elvin Scanterbury says a thorough investigation will be done “to ensure accountability and to address any operational vulnerabilities that allowed this breach to occur.”
