The State has been granted permission to take the Hadeeds’ case to the Privy Council and has secured a Court of Appeal order keeping them in prison.
Businessman Dominic Hadeed and his wife, Genevieve, were expected to be released yesterday, after judges ruled that the State did not provide enough evidence to justify their continued detention and ordered strict house arrest.
However, following an emergency hearing last night, Chief Justice Ronnie Boodoosingh and two other Appeal Court judges granted an interim stay of that ruling, preventing the couple’s release while the State pursues its appeal.
The State was also granted final leave to appeal to the Privy Council, a move that was not opposed by the Hadeeds’ legal team.
The matter will return to court this afternoon.
The Hadeeds have been in custody since June 24th, over an alleged plot to assassinate high-profile public officials.
