The Galera Point Lighthouse Facility is closed to the public, pending restoration of the historic structure.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism, this measure is precautionary, as the structure has been deemed unsound.
It warns that potential hazards continue to be present, such as falling debris from the lighthouse that may result from adverse weather conditions or natural disasters.
The Ministry says it is in active communication with the Works Ministry’s Maritime Services Division regarding a timeline for the completion of works.
“The Ministry is committed to the safe re-opening of this premier tourist destination, which is of significant historical cultural importance to Trinidad and Tobago.”
