YUMA has launched its Carnival 2027 presentation “FEROCIOUS: Fierce by Nature” with a high-energy showcase at NAPA in Port of Spain.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, seven designers unveiled costumes from 13 sections inspired by the animal kingdom, highlighting themes of strength, survival and self-expression.
YUMA Co-Director Tanya Gomes said the theme reflects the band’s ability to evolve, overcome criticism, and draw on instinct and resilience in its creative process.
She said it is particularly meaningful as it explores the balance between beauty and strength, adding that there is something powerful in recognising that vulnerability and strength can coexist.
Ms Gomes also emphasised that body inclusivity remains central to the band’s production and presentation.
She added that while designers aim to keep production local, some technical expertise is sometimes outsourced to help bring the creative vision to life.
