The EMA and its stakeholders say they will strengthen efforts to monitor and protect the ecological future of the Aripo Savannas.

This follows a site visit by officials from the Authority and the Forestry Division, during which several ongoing environmental issues affecting the protected area were highlighted.

According to the EMA, the Savannas continue to face illegal hunting, squatting, bushfires, and pressures from nearby development, including potential breaches linked to construction of the Elmina Clarke-Allen Highway.

Chairman Doolar Ramlal says there is a need for urgent, unified action and warns that unchecked activity and weak coordination could undermine the ecological integrity of the Savannas.
