Former Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley is calling on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to apologise to the nation, following her recent Independence Day messages.

In a statement on social media, Dr Rowley described these as “dangerous” and “racist,” and accused the Prime Minister of targeting the Arab and Afro-Trinidadian communities.

He accused her of running a campaign of racial division and called on her to stop and apologise for what he says was rhetoric that defiled the country’s 64th Independence anniversary.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister says “she stands by every word” of her Independence Day messages.

The T&T Express reported that Mrs Persad-Bissessar accused the PNM of using race and hatred for political gain.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar also defended her messages, including her claim that T&T must stop blaming its colonial past and take responsibility for its 64 years of Independence.
