The GATE Standing Committee held its first meeting today, with discussions focused on strengthening the GATE Programme to better support T&T’s education and workforce priorities.
According to the Tertiary Education Ministry, key areas of focus included:
- Access & Relevance — Maintaining these as the hallmarks of the GATE Programme.
- Accreditation & Employability — Strengthening the connection between accredited programmes, skills development and employment opportunities.
- Labour-Market Needs — Ensuring tertiary programmes are responsive to current and emerging workforce demands.
- National Priorities — Better aligning tertiary education with priority skills and national development goals.
- Student Outcomes — Supporting students in gaining relevant qualifications and skills that lead to meaningful employment.
It says the focus remains on ensuring that GATE continues to provide access to tertiary education while delivering relevant skills and stronger outcomes for students and T&T.
The meeting included Tertiary Education Minister, Professor Prakash Persad.
