The Ministry of Works and Infrastructure says desilting works are underway along the Cap-de-Ville River in south Trinidad.
In a media release the Ministry stated that teams from the Ministry’s Drainage Division are clearing overgrown vegetation, sediment, and other obstructions to restore the natural flow of water.
In addition, the work is also intended to widen the channel to improve its capacity.
The Ministry of Works said the efforts support their ongoing flood mitigation efforts, which benefit residents in Cap-de-Ville and surrounding areas.
In addition, the Ministry stated that other communities such as Cedros, Point Fortin, Granville, Chatham, Coromandel, and Icacos benefit from improved connectivity during periods of heavy rainfall.
