The Transport Ministry has announced the official launch of a Road Safety Unit within the Traffic Management Division.

This Unit is intended to strengthen the Ministry’s capacity to collect and analyse road traffic accident and compliance data.

“The Unit will focus on the collection, analysis and interpretation of road traffic accident and compliance data to identify trends, patterns, high-risk locations and levels of compliance with road traffic laws,” says the Ministry’s statement.

This will, in turn, support evidence-based decision-making aimed at reducing road traffic accidents and improving compliance with road traffic laws.

Transport Minister Eli Zakour says the launch of the Unit marks a significant step towards strengthening a data-driven approach to road safety.

It will be led by Chief Traffic Engineer, Adande Piggott, and supported by a technical team.
