The inflation rate decreased in April 2026, with the Central Statistical Office reporting it to be 0.4%.
It says this represents a decrease from 0.7% for the previous period (March 2026/March 2025).
Meanwhile, the CSO says the All Items Index calculated from the prices collected for the month of April 2026 was 125.7, representing a decrease of 0.2 points or 0.2% below the All Items Index for March 2026.
However, the Index for Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages increased from 154.6 in March 2026 to 154.8 in April 2026, reflecting an increase of 0.1%.
Contributing significantly to this increase was the general upward movement in the prices of fresh whole chicken, cucumber, carrots, parboiled rice, other salted fish, oranges, other chilled or frozen goat, other fruit drinks, tomatoes and pumpkin.
The CSO adds however, that the full impact of these price increases was offset by the general decrease in the prices of fresh carite, irish potatoes, ochroes, fresh king fish, bodi, hot peppers, pimento, melongene, green pigeon peas and cabbage.
The CSO goes on to state:
