COSTAATT and the Prison Service have signed a new MoU to renew and update their longstanding partnership.

The agreement builds on a relationship first established in 2016 with regard to staff training, professional development and capacity building within the correctional system.

According to Chair of the Board of Trustees at COSTAATT, Roamar Achat-Saney, approximately 1,000 correctional officers have benefited over the years from training opportunities.

She adds that many have progressed from correctional training programmes to certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree studies.

Since the signing of the original agreement, the partnership has supported the delivery of programmes such as the Certificate in Criminal Justice and Introduction to Corrections, providing educational and professional development opportunities for both serving officers and new recruits.

COSTATT says the renewed agreement complements COSTAATT’s wider efforts to address crime and recidivism through education.
