Colombian President Gustavo Petro is set to visit Venezuela on Friday for high-level talks with acting President Delcy Rodríguez, focusing on border security, trade and energy cooperation.
The meeting—their first—comes months after former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro was seized by U.S. forces.
Colombia is pushing to import Venezuelan gas and is seeking relief from U.S. sanctions to invest in energy projects, including reopening a key cross-border pipeline.
Officials say agreements are already in place with state oil company PDVSA to upgrade pipeline infrastructure on the Colombian side.
