WASA says the theft of a power cable at the St Joseph Booster Station in Mayaro is a direct assault on the rights of law-abiding citizens.
Around 12:30am yesterday, Authority personnel found that the cable running from the T&TEC power supply to the meter at the station was missing
It says this is not a victimless crime, since sabotage of this nature disrupts the water supply to communities, causing hardship for families and businesses.
It is also the latest act of criminal sabotage targeting the Authorityโs infrastructure and WASA is warning of serious legal consequences for the perpetrators.
It adds that it has strengthened its collaboration with the TTPS to ensure these matters receive priority attention.
Under the Summary Offences Act and the Malicious Damage Act those found guilty of damaging public infrastructure are liable to fines and imprisonment.
