The TTPS is investigating the discovery of multiple remains, including some 50 infants, at the Cumuto
The discovery was made earlier today, with two suspects held.
In a statement, it says the area has been cordoned of to allow a detailed forensic examination of the site.
56 bodies have been recovered, comprising:
β’ 50 infants
β’ 4 adult males (one showing signs of a prior post-mortem)
β’ 2 adult females (one showing signs of a prior post-mortem)
All adult remains, with the exception of one male, were found with identification tags.
It adds that preliminary indications suggest that this may be a case involving the unlawful disposal of unclaimed corpses.
Further forensic analysis is underway to determine the origin of the remains and any associated breaches of law or procedure.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro has directed that the matter be treated with the highest level of priority and oversight.
