The T&T Police Service is defending its deployment of mobile police units, saying the initiative forms part of its wider anti-crime strategy.

The TTPS says mobile units have been used for several years, with newer micro-police units offering more space while remaining easy to move across the country.

As for deployment, it says sites are selected using data from the Crime and Problem Analysis Branch, allowing the units to be positioned in areas where they are most needed.

Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro says the units are intended to strengthen the Service’s operational reach, improve response times and support the development of a more modern and effective Police Service.

He adds that criticism of it will not distract the TTPS from its responsibility to protect the public.
