T&TEC’s Security Department is working with the TTPS to investigate two incidents of vandalism that caused power outages this week.

On Monday night, intentional damage to a high-voltage cable at the Harmony Hall Substation in San Fernando interrupted the supply to Marabella and San Fernando.

Then, on Thursday evening, persons in Beetham Gardens and Sea Lots experienced an outage after an apparent attempt to steal cable at the Abattoir Substation in Port of Spain.

T&TEC’s General Manager Ian Ramrattan has condemned the “reckless and unlawful actions”, saying “such acts of vandalism threaten the safety and well-being of communities”.

He also warned of the danger to the perpetrators themselves, saying that tampering with or interacting with T&TEC’s infrastructure can cause physical harm, including electrocution and serious injury.
