Former Police Commissioner Gary Griffith believes that this country is no better prepared to prevent another attempted coup than it was 36 years ago.
Marking the anniversary of the July 27th, 1990 attempted coup, Mr Griffith said poor intelligence gathering was a major factor in the attack and claimed key recommendations from the Commission of Enquiry remain unimplemented.
He said he introduced a National Operations Centre, while serving as National Security Minister, to improve intelligence sharing, but believes it is no longer being used as intended.
Mr Griffith is calling for the remaining recommendations of the Commission of Enquiry to be implemented to strengthen national security.
