Trade Minister Kama Maharaj says the Government is working to expand T&T’s trade opportunities by opening new markets and strengthening international partnerships.
Speaking to the media at the opening of Trade and Investment Convention yesterday, Mr Maharaj said the aim is to position this country as a regional trade hub.
Minister Maharaj also said the Government will continue its work to ensure local producers receive priority access to foreign exchange.
Minister Maharaj’s comments follow claims by the Opposition that the Government has made the local manufacturing sector less competitive.
During a media conference yesterday, MP Brian Manning said the current administration removed certain special provisions that had been in place for the sector.
