The Police Commissioner has ordered an investigation into a leaked audio recording being circulated on social media.

The audio is purportedly a phone conversation between Star Sabga and Genevieve Hadeed.

In a statement, Top Cop Allister Guevarro says the probe will determine the authenticity of the recording, whether it was lawfully intercepted, and if authentic, the circumstances under which it entered the public domain.

This will include whether any person unlawfully disclosed protected information and whether there was any breach of operational security, data handling protocols or statutory obligations.

The investigation will be spearheaded by Assistant Police Commissioner Andy Teewarie.

According to the TTPS, the Interception of Communications Act expressly forbids the unauthorised disclosure of such communications.

It adds “a person who discloses the existence of a warrant or an application for a warrant… commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of fifty thousand dollars and to imprisonment for three years.”
