Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro believes fear of crime, not just crime itself, is now one of the countryβs biggest challenges.
At an exclusive engagement hosted by the T&T Chamber of Commerce this morning, he said official data shows serious and violent crimes have declined.
However, he said public perception has not improved, with many citizens still feeling unsafe.
The Top Cop believes repeated negative narratives, especially on social media, are driving fear.
He added that this has real consequences, such as reduced commercial activity, reduced investor confidence, and an unwillingness to cooperate with police out of fear.
