Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro has confirmed that additional firearms have gone missing from a municipal police facility on Penitence Street in San Fernando.
According to a T&T Express report, the discovery follows the suspension of a municipal police officer and a directive placing all weapons under TTPS control.
An Acting Superintendent reportedly found fewer firearms and ammunitionthan expected during a check of a storage safe, which also showed signs of tampering.
Commissioner Guevarro says the investigation is ongoing and warns there will be “no sacred cows,” with anyone found responsible to face the full force of the law.
A wider audit is ongoing, as weapons are being transferred to the TTPS.
Meanwhile, newly appointed head of the T&T Municipal Police Wayne Mystar says he will not comment on the ongoing investigation into missing firearms.
ACP Mystar says the matter is being led by the TTPS, which has responsibility for criminal investigations and he added that any updates will come from the Police Commissioner or the lead investigator.
He also noted that the matter is before the courts and remains under active investigation, and therefore will avoid commenting to prevent prejudicing the case.
