A 25-year-old Tobago-born student at Brooklyn College is developing a digital system aimed at transforming public transportation in Trinidad and Tobago.
Nekerlon Nedd’s project features real-time bus tracking and digital payment options for the Public Transport Service Corporation.
He told Tobago Updates it will help commuters avoid long waits and uncertainty at bus stops.
“PTSC will be able to see exactly everything that is happening—where the buses are, who is using the app, how many people are in certain routes,” he said.
“What they can do with that is use that data to be more efficient. As of now, buses are being sent out blindly. This is why we may have a bus travelling empty which isn’t efficient.”
