A Guyanese man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for the murder of his longtime friend along the Upper Berbice River.
Maxton Walker appeared before Justice Simone Morris at the Berbice High Court after pleading guilty to killing Marcus Adrian in March 2024 at Hururu Mission.
Prosecutors said the two men had been drinking when an argument turned violent, leaving Adrian with multiple wounds.
Justice Morris described the killing as senseless.
Walker’s original 27-year sentence was reduced because of his guilty plea.
He becomes eligible for parole after 15 years.
