The THA Health Secretary Dr Faith Brebnor says Tobago’s health infrastructure is ready to respond any threat posed by the Hantavirus.

She told Tobago Updates that the Tobago Regional Health Authority is ready to provide supportive treatment.

“The treatment for Hantavirus—we don’t have a vaccine, we don’t have any specific medication, for example, for hantavirus. But what we do is supportive treatment,” she said.

“We ensure that if you have challenges with breathing, we help you to breathe. You have challenges with other things, we help you with those things. You have challenges with your kidneys, we help you with that.”

Dr Brebnor said the health system is currently able to provide those types of supportive treatment.
