The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) is mourning the passing of George Stanley Beard, hailing the former THA member as “a true Tobago icon” whose service and contribution to the island touched many lives.

Mr Beard was a member of the THA from 1984 to 2001, serving as an Assemblymen and then as a Councillor.

He also made an indelible contribution to the preservation and advancement of Tobago’s culture and heritage.

“He conceptualised and established the Tobago Heritage Festival and also started the Blue Food Festival, another lasting contribution to Tobago’s cultural and culinary identity,” the THA stated.

“We are eternally grateful for his work, which played an important role in strengthening and advancing the traditions that continue to define the spirit of our people.”

Mr Beard was awarded the Tobago Medal of Honor Gold in 2024 in the sphere of Public Service, Education, Culture and Community Service.

“On behalf of the Tobago House of Assembly, Hon. Farley Augustine, Chief Secretary of Tobago extends heartfelt condolences to his wife, family, friends, loved ones, and all who mourn his passing,” the THA stated.
