Effective immediately, named individuals and “persons unknown”” are prohibited from operating jet-skis within the Buccoo Reef Marine Park and Pigeon Point Heritage Park.
This measure is outlined in an emergency court injunction secured by the Tobago House of Assembly.
In a statement, the Office of the Chief Secretary says this order comes amid recent tragic incidents and ongoing concerns regarding unsafe and unlawful activity within protected marine zones.
In addition to the operation of jet-skis, the emergency injunction also prohibits the offering or solicitation of jet-ski services, as well as the launching and retrieval of such vessels until further order of the court.
The matter is scheduled for hearing on May 1st 2026.
On April 8th, 7-year-old Angelica Saydee Jogie was killed when a jet-ski crashed into her in the bathing area at Pigeon Point.
The craft’s operator was initially arrested, but later released, pending further investigations.
