Several locations in Central Trinidad have been identified as being suited for the establishment of joint army-police posts.
This was revealed today by Senior Superintendent Rudolph Bhagwandeen, who said the areas were chosen following consultations with commanders and the police executive.
Identified were: the Couva Interchange near the NP gas station, Carlsen Field east of the Highway, Brentwood near the gas station, Felicity in Chaguanas, and St Helena in the Caroni area.
Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen says while posts may not necessarily be put in these areas, identifying the locations could help ensure proper coverage.
Carlsen Field and Felicity have already been publicly chosen to receive posts.
With regard to management of the posts, Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen said resources will be deployed to ensure their effective operation.
Meanwhile, the TTPS says 2026 has seen notable downward trends in all categories of serious crime in the Central Division, with the exception of home invasions.
Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen said the issue was a serious challenge in the first four months in particular.
However, he revealed that the arrest of eight perpetrators and the deaths of six suspects in police-involved shootings have since resulted in a remarkable decrease in such crimes.
He said measures have also since been put in place.
As for statistics, Senior Superintendent Bhagwandeen said between January 1st and August 10th 2026, there has been a 19% decrease in overall reported crime in the Central Division.
This includes a 42% reduction in murders, with 25 recorded so far for 2026, compared to 43 for the same period in 2025.
