35 sheep and seven goats have been euthanized after being seized by police and coast guard officers.
The animals were intercepted during a multi-agency operation in Cedros and are believed to have been brought into the country illegally.
Veterinary officials later found them to be infected with a communicable disease, leading to their humane euthanasia under national biosecurity protocols.
The incident has prompted a warning from Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro, who said anyone found illegally smuggling livestock will face decisive enforcement action.
He said such practices pose a major threat to national food security, public health, and the livelihoods of local farmers.
