Police officers have dispersed persons attempting to assemble for a proposed Walk For Peace in Port of Spain.

According to a flyer circulating on social media, the event was planned by Peace Foundation TT and was due to begin at Piccadilly Street at 3pm.

The TTPS however issued a release earlier today stating that no approval had been granted.

It also warned that any attempt to organize or participate in an unauthorized march may constitute a breach of the applicable laws and regulations currently in force.

The matter was raised during today’s TTPS briefing, leading to questions from the media.

Responding to those questions was ASP Ashley Mongroo.

The TTPS has been criticised for other recent demonstrations held to protest the decision to charge Kaia Sealy in connection with the death of Joshua Samaroo.

These saw several arrests and a decision to restrict assemblies at certain locations.
