Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar says her Government will build a stronger, more professional Prison Service as part of its wider strategy to make T&T safer.
It comes as the latest batch of prison officer recruits began their training today.
In a post on Facebook, the PM said this batch was planned for 250 recruits, with 226 trainees reporting for the first day of training.
She adds that recruitment will continue with a second intake beginning orientation on August 24th, with training to begin on September 1st.
Visiting today’s session were Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander and Justice Minister Devesh Maharaj.
