Kamla Persad Bissessar PM

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has condemned what she says was “irresponsible behaviour” at a breakfast party in Chaguaramas yesterday.

Clips circulating on social media show patrons engaging in fights with law enforcement, as the latter moved to shut down the event after attendance exceeded the approved capacity.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar shared one of the clips on her Facebook page, with a caption that pointed to 85 murders this year that she says were due to altercations that were avoidable.

She added that blame for violence cannot be put on the TTPS, Judiciary, or others when “supposedly normal persons are behaving like this in public.”

She added, “If you can’t behave properly in public, please stay home so decent, law-abiding citizens and their families can enjoy the country without suffering from your lack of personal responsibility.”
