Opposition Leader Penelope Beckles is criticizing governmentโ€™s proposed TT$1,000 peak-period airfare on the domestic air-bridge, calling it oppressive and harmful to ordinary citizens.

She says the jump from $400 to $1,000 during peak travel times will hurt workers, students, families, and frequent travellers who depend on affordable inter-island transport.

Mrs. Beckles warns the increase could also damage Tobagoโ€™s tourism sector, affecting small businesses, guesthouses, taxi operators, and vendors.

She is urging government to improve Caribbean Airlinesโ€™ efficiency instead of placing the burden on the public.

Earlier today, Government MP Dr Roodal Minister dismissed the media reports of a price hike as misleading.

Media reports quoted Trade Minister Kama Maharaj as saying the price of flights from Trinidad to Tobago would jump from the subsidized price of $400 to as high as $1000.
