The Government has place restrictions on copper exports for one year, allowing only licensed manufacturers to export the metal under strict conditions set by the Trade Ministry.

The order took effect on July 10th and will expire on July 9th 2027.

Under the order of Legal Notice 540, manufacturers seeking export licences must provide details on the source, type, value and quantity of copper.

Exported amounts must not exceed the quantity imported or purchased locally.

Invoices and other business records must also be submitted, while inspections by the Trade Ministry and the Customs and Excise Division are required before approval is granted.

The restrictions follow a series of thefts and acts of vandalism targeting T&TEC infrastructure in recent weeks.
