The Airports Authority says passenger traffic at the Piarco International Airport “remains robust” contrary to reports being circulated.
It says during the July/August Vacation, international visitor traffic reached a peak of 181,411 in July 2026, as opposed to 178,298 in July 2025.
June 2026 however saw a minor decline, with 147,997 international passengers, as opposed to 155,040 in the same month the year before.
The Authority says while passenger traffic figures naturally fluctuate, the data does not support a characterisation of the Piarco Airport being “significantly emptier”.
It also insists that traffic at the Airport should not be assessed solely on the basis of international travel, since domestic passenger traffic continues to remain buoyant.
The Authority says its efforts have already resulted in the addition of two new regional carriers, namely Winair and interCaribbean Airways.
It is also anticipating the introduction of additional airline services in the form of Contour Airlines and Sunrise Airways in October 2026.
Contour will introduce a new nonstop service between Douglas-Charles Airport in Dominica and Piarco, operating twice weekly.
The Airline will also provide one-stop, same plane service between Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan and Piarco, as well as between Cyril E. King Airport in St Thomas.
