The National Council of Indian Culture will ban the sale of fireworks at this year’s Divali Nagar event.
The announcement was made by NCIC President, Dr Surujdeo Mangaroo during the launch of Divali Nagar 2026 this morning.
He says the decision heeds calls made by the public, and means vendors will not be permitted to sell fireworks on the NCIC Nagar compound during the celebrations.
Dr Mangaroo said even though the measure will be a considerable loss to the organization, it is intended to help maintain safety and order at the venue.
This year’s Nagar celebrations will run from October 30th to November 7th.
The theme is “Viveka – A Discerning Truth in the Age of AI”.
