Trinidad and Tobago’s cocoa sector is being repositioned for stronger export earnings, as the Agriculture Ministry signals an accelerated push toward a high-value, export-driven industry.

The move comes as the country’s reputation for fine flavour cocoa was strengthened at the Cacao of Excellence Recognition Ceremony, held in Couva earlier today.

Agriculture Minister Ravi Ratiram said the focus is shifting beyond preserving a legacy industry, toward expanding market share and increasing value for local producers.

He reaffirmed T&T’s elite status as a producer of 100% fine flavour Trinitario cocoa, noting that sustaining this position, in an increasingly competitive international space, will require targeted investment and market-focused strategy.

The ceremony also recognised national awardees Carlisle Pemberton, Deosaran Jagroo and Mariella Pierre-Peschier, whose international success continues to support Trinidad and Tobago’s reputation for world-class cocoa and shows the value of ongoing investment in the sector.
