The Ministry of Public Administration and Artificial Intelligence is rejecting a newspaper report which claims Government secretly advanced infrastructure for an AI data centre

In a statement, it says a commercial AI infrastructure initiative is being explored, namely a Tier IV National Data Centre at Phoenix Park Industrial Estate.

This was initiated under the previous PNM administration and meant to support Government digital services, strengthen national cybersecurity and reduce the State’s reliance on external data hosting arrangements.

According to the Ministry, the article wrongly presents procurement activity and Memoranda of Understanding as evidence that a commercial AI data centre already exists.

It adds that this project is distinct from the AI facilities being contemplated under the recent MoUs with Ernst & Young and Hummingbird AI Holdings.

According to the Ministry, these are for proposed commercial, high-performance computing facilities intended to support enterprise AI and other advanced computing applications.
