MV Barima

Guyana will observe three days of national mourning following the MV Barima tragedy, to honour the victims, support grieving families, and show solidarity with survivors.

In an official proclamation issued by President Irfaan Ali, the period of mourning will run from tomorrow, July 22nd, to Friday, July 24th.

During this time, national flags will be flown at half-mast, and Wednesday has been declared a National Day of Prayer, to be held at the Kingston Seawall.

A Night of Reflection and Prayer will take place in Port Kaituma on Thursday and in Mabaruma on Friday, while communities across Guyana are being encouraged to hold candlelight vigils in remembrance of the victims.
