Social Development Minister Vandana Mohit says poverty goes beyond income alone, noting that other social indicators must be used to make a multi-dimensional poverty measurement.
Speaking during the Virtual Technical Workshop of the Inter-American Committee on Social Development, Minister Mohit said
poverty is also reflected in unequal access to healthcare, education, housing, food security and social inclusion.
She highlighted the importance of disaggregated data, including geography, gender and disability, to better identify vulnerable groups and improve targeted support.
This, she said gives governments a stronger understanding of the lived realities of citizens and helps shape more effective social policies.
