Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has expressed condolences following the tragic death of 19-year-old sanitation worker Deshawn Joseph.
Joseph, of Springvale, Claxton Bay, was killed on Tuesday night after being struck and run over by a garbage truck while collecting waste in Kelly Village, Caroni.
In a statement, the Prime Minister described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that the teenager had been working to support his family, including his pregnant girlfriend.
The tragedy has led to an outpouring of sympathy on social media, with many raising concerns about the dangers faced by sanitation workers.
