Secretary of Association of Maxi Taxi Trinidad and Tobago, Vickash Kissoondath, says today’s protest is sending a clear message as intended.
Operators from different routes have refused to work, leaving members of the travelling public to find alternative ways to get to their destinations.
Mr Kissoondath told 103.1FM News this morning that all five maxi taxi routes across Trinidad were affected this morning, with reports indicating that up to 99% of operators on some routes stayed off the roads.
He is asking the public to bear with the Association’s action.
According to Mr Kissoondath, a meeting with Transport Minister Eli Zakour is scheduled for 2PM today.
He said operators are hoping to secure firm commitments and timelines to address their concerns.
These include an increase in the highway speed limit for maxi taxis from 65 to 80 km per hour, stronger measures to tackle crime, a crackdown on illegal PH taxi operations, and payment of outstanding monies owed for transporting schoolchildren.
